Sunny Thursday

POSTED BY Steve T. on Mar 4, 2010

Here I sit during my lunch hour to add more items to this blog. It is nice outside, very sunny and pretty – a day that I wished I could stay home and do some outdoor stuff.   Oh well, I got to bring home the bacon so I don’t have much of a choice here.

Well I have had an interesting month in February at work, learned how to do the SSIS application in Microsoft SQL.  I think it sucks compared to the old SQL DTS application.  Too many security restrictions and doesn’t give you any warning on the job is going to fail.   Typical Microsoft product…find ways to make your lives miserable while emptying your wallet and wasting your time.  The SSIS application is created by the use of the Visual Studio Business Intelligence Development tools.  It is a pretty slick application, but deploying it is a bitch.  Thanks to Google for letting me find the answers how to do this.

Found another Microsoft Windows 2008 caveat, with a new service called Windows Problem Reports and Solutions that writes data to your hard drive.  Turned on by default and it makes you wonder why your disk space is running low.  I killed that service and gained a few gigabytes back once I purged the reports.  It should be turned OFF by default and give you the ability to use it when you are trying to troubleshoot Windows issues.  Remember, it is another Microsoft product.

My next step is to do some SalesForce development from a class I took a while back, wish me luck on that.   Writing the app is not an issue, the big issue is deployment, you have to have some test logic built in to publish or it won’t let you.  You can write all day in SalesForce sandbox, but to publish  in production, you have to have your ducks in a row or else it will fail.

Tiger Woods Drinking Game

POSTED BY Steve T. on Feb 22, 2010

Taken from: http://www.woot.com/blog/viewentry.aspx?id=11570

Its Highlights Here:

Take a drink: Every time he mentions the word “sorry” or “apologize.”
Take two drinks: Every time he uses the phrase “deeply regret.”
Take a shot: Every time he starts to tear up.
Take a drink: If he talks about his family.
Take a shot: If he mentions his sponsors at all.

Take TWO shots: At the beginning of the statement if he’s standing in front of a giant corporate logo of some kind.
Drink your entire beer: If he mentions returning to golf within the next three months.
Drink your entire bottle of liquor: If he blames this on a horrible sex addiction that he is powerless to stop.

Drink everything in your house, cry, and curse the death of professional golf: If he announces his retirement.

You could also try our “Ultimate Warrior Challenge” and take a drink every time a flash bulb goes off.

Screw Dat NFL

POSTED BY Steve T. on Jan 30, 2010

NFL are a bunch of greedy bastards, they claim a trademark for the slogan “Who Dat” which is a slogan that has been around for over 150 years, way before the Saints existed.  They also claim the Fleur de lis is also a trademark too, well if you live in Louisiana, it is everywhere so no you can’t claim that either.   I can see the greed since you are charging at a mimimum of $800 per ticket for the Superbowl.  If it wasn’t for the Saints in the Superbowl, I could not give a rat’s ass about it.

Thanks to Rep David Vitter and Rep Charlie Melancon for stepping up and writing a letter to NFL about this matter.

Back on the blog

POSTED BY Steve T. on Jan 15, 2010

It is a rainy Friday. We went to Cracker Barrel for dinner, food was good but the service sucked. The waitress was hardly around and we did not get our biscuits before our meal. We got it midway our dinner. There is no excuse. So I did not leave a tip. Why should I leave a tip for crappy service.

Happy New Year (belated)

POSTED BY Steve T. on Jan 6, 2010

Back in the Blog, hope everyone had a happy New Year.  Well my New Year’s day sort of sucked, 1st the Caterie burns down and 2nd LSU lost the bowl game against Penn.   Coming back to work was very hard, but it wasn’t bad, got a lot done in the first few hours.

Now it is cold as hell outside, about 28 degrees or so, supposed to get colder later on this week.

Day After Christmas Madness

POSTED BY Steve T. on Dec 26, 2009

Went to the Times Grill and got myself a Jacked Up Burger, really delicious. Then went to the Mall of Louisiana to Best Buy and bought a new refrigerator. The traffic there was a mess, almost got a fender bender due to some idiot going into my lane. If you are in the market to observe idiots, then you should visit the mall of Louisiana, people are driving like mad there.

I am enjoying my new XBox 360, downloading some demo games to have some fun. I love these playable demos, that way you can do a test drive before shelling out a lot of cash.

Merry Christmas

POSTED BY Steve T. on Dec 25, 2009

We had a great Christmas, cold but nice outside. My son got some nice gifts.

I am still bummed about my neighbor’s business, Grady Crawford Construction. Two women were murdered and one injured. It was done by some crazy former employee who was missing his unemployment check. My heart goes to the Crawford family and other families who suffered this ordeal.

Terrific Tuesday

POSTED BY Steve T. on Dec 22, 2009

I got a lot of work accomplished today, but still have more to do for tomorrow which is my last day until January when I return.  I got my annual review and it was a good one, pretty much what I expected.   I am looking forward to the Christmas holidays, I get to spend some quality time with my family.

I am very disappointed at our Governor, Bobby Jindal, he keeps making big budget cuts.  248 Million dollars cuts, which means more job losses for the State of Louisiana.  My wife needs 1 more year to make 20 years with the state and these cuts are making it more difficult to get her back on.  What really irks me is there are a lot of people who work for the State of Louisiana, don’t even live in Louisiana, some commute from Mississippi, those should be the first ones to cut.   It isn’t fair to my wife.   She got the butt end of the deal when she worked at LSU, that is why I hate LSU so much, the University has so many assholes working there, and it doesn’t make it a good working environment.   She had a very bad experience with the Psychology department (they are nuts).  She worked for an evil woman there and she had to quit since the work environment was very horrible.   I wanted her to file a suit against the university, but she did not want to.    Basically every job she has had at LSU has been a horrible experience, she does contract work for the regular state and she said it is very peaceful there.   She should have worked for the regular state all along.     I follow LSU football because I live here, however I’ll follow the Saints no matter where I live.

I am really disgusted with our Senator Mary Landrieu, who ignores phone calls and emails from citizens who want to make a difference.  Hopefully she will not win the next election and hopefully she will be recalled from office.   I do not like the current health bill that is going through senate and of course Mary Landrieu is voting for that.   I don’t like the idea of the government funding abortions and I don’t see how it is going to save money, it is going to end up raising taxes to foot the bill.

My last rant, is Our Lady of Lake hospital wants a big increase from my insurance, Blue Cross.   First of all the Lake’s accounting system is really screwed up and 2nd of all it is supposed to be a non for profit agency, Bullshit, they are the highest paid hospital in the state.   I avoid that place as much as I can, and I hate doing that since I am Catholic and it is a Catholic hospital.

Well enough of my rants, I am Looking forward to Christmas, I am excited for my son who will be getting some nice things for Christmas.

Busy work week (Short Week)

POSTED BY Steve T. on Dec 22, 2009

Busy this week at work, doing a lot of programming and data mining.  I’ll be off next week so I need to take care of a lot of things.

We had our company annual Christmas party at Lazer Tag, it was fun, I wasn’t in the mood to play too much Laser Tag so I watched the magician perform a magic show with my son, he was really good.

I’ll be so glad when I am off for the holidays….I need a break where I am home instead of going somewhere.

Another Nice Weekend

POSTED BY Steve T. on Dec 20, 2009

This weekend the weather was cool but sunny outside.  We celebrated my mom’s birthday on Sunday.  Saturday was her actual birthday, but we had to do some finishing up Christmas shopping, my wife had to take my mother in law to run errands and go to church.   We went to our neighbor’s annual Christmas party last night (Saturday), the food there was fabulous.

Watched the Saints lose against Dallas, they really need to do a better job protecting the quarterback, poor Drew Brees, he kept getting sacked by the Cowboys.  The Cowboy’s kicker is horrible, he missed one field goal last night, which really did not matter for this game, but I have seen it where it costed a few games.  They need to get a better kicker, this guy is really bad, last night was his 10th miss this season and that is the record in NFL this year.

Found that Brittany Murphy passed away today at the age of 32.  What a shame, she was a sweet person and very beautiful.  I wish her family and friends well.

Only have  three days of work this week, got lots to do before Christmas since I am taking the week off after Christmas to spend time with my son.
